Separation and Loss Counselling Conference Recap of Keynote Speeches
ReSource the Counselling Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of The University of Hong Kong, jointly presented the “Separation and Loss: Update on Social Trends and Clinical Practice” Counselling Conference, held on 15 March 2025 at Tai Kwun, Central.
The full-day conference brought together over 300 professionals and students from social work, counselling, psychology, education, and related helping fields to explore the evolving social dynamics of separation, loss, and grief, as well as corresponding clinical responses. A total of six pre- and post-conference workshops were also conducted in March, offering in-depth clinical insights and case sharing to enhance professional practice in grief counselling.

Transforming Grief: The Power of Posttraumatic Growth after Bereavement of Suicide
Prof. Wong examined the complex psychological challenges faced by individuals and families bereaved by suicide, drawing from both clinical and research perspectives. The keynote also addressed ethical considerations and clinical challenges encountered by practitioners supporting this population.

Putting Grief in Place: Practical Support for Grief and Loss
Dr. Ng shared practical approaches to supporting bereaved families through funeral arrangements and ongoing grief processes. The session emphasised how loss may be meaningfully held and integrated through compassionate and grounded clinical practice.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Grief Counselling
Dr. Chow introduced the application of Emotionally Focused Therapy in grief counselling, illustrated through clinical case demonstrations. The presentation highlighted how emotional bonds may be repaired and restructured following separation and loss.

Clinical Challenges and the Pathway of Post Affair Therapy in Healing Infidelity Relational Trauma
Dr. Kwok delved into how to use attachment theory and various family therapy intervention approaches to help clients cope with the trauma caused by infidelity. Through sharing her clinical experiences, she provided concrete insights and strategies, enabling practitioners to effectively assist couples in rebuilding trust and their relationships.
